The BEF Golf Invitational is one of the Boomer Esiason Foundation’s longest-running and most successful fundraising events. The tournament, held each May at a prestigious golf club near New York City, is a popular stop on the area’s charity golf circuit.
THE BEF GOLF INVITATIONAL
Each year, the Golf Invitational brings together more than 140 golfers and other friends of the Foundation for a fun-filled day packed with activities. While the tournament’s winning teams receive a number of terrific prizes, several other contests – closest-to-pin, longest drive and hole-in-one – also get the competitive juices flowing and add to the fun.
In addition to a full day of golf, participants are treated to a fine array of food. A full breakfast is served prior to the start of the tournament, and sponsor Outback Steakhouse offers food and beverages throughout the course during match play. Afterward, a gourmet dinner brings everyone together to compare notes and swap stories; that’s also when prizes are distributed to the day’s winners. All golfers take home a duffel bag stuffed with goodies.
The Golf Invitational is a critical piece of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. Proceeds from the event usually reach close to $800,000, making it one of the most successful charity golf tournaments of the season. Roughly $0.91 of every dollar raised at the tournament and other Foundation events goes toward efforts to eliminate cystic fibrosis, and the need for these funds has never been greater.
